Uga VII Buried This Morning
This morning Uga VII was laid to rest in the mausoleum in Sanford Stadium in a private ceremony, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Uga VII passed away suddenly on Thursday after serving just 2 seasons as the University of Georgia mascot.
The AJC also posted a photo gallery from the ceremony.

Reflections on the Passing of a Damn Good Dawg
Today University of Georgia mascot Uga VII suffered a heart attack and passed away. Coverage from the AJC, ABH, R&B, UGA Athletic Association, Georgia Sports Blog, David Hale’s Bulldogs Blog, Scout.com, and FanNation. Uga’s death was even covered on CNN (that’s how important this bulldog was). The words of Sonny Seiler, Uga owner:
“He was 10-3 last year which is not bad for a ‘freshman,’” said Seiler. “Uga VII was not as active or mischievous as his father but more distinguished. He realized his role when he put his shirt on. He was well-behaved and always appreciated the significance of his role.”
The Seilers have said that there will be no live mascot for this weekend’s UGA-Kentucky game in Athens (AJC). But, the Seilers are saying that an interim bulldog will grace the field for Georgia’s rivalry game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta on November 28, and likely for a bowl game.
We would also like to post some links to people who posted good stories and remembrances of Uga VII. Mark Bradley of the AJC posts his own story of getting to know the Ugas. He also notes a great quote from then-Coach Vince Dooley, who said in response to Otto filling-in for the injured Uga IV in 1986, “We’ve got good depth at dog.”
Georgia Sports Blog discusses Uga VII, and DawgSports has two great posts (here and here). DawgSports also the rumor going around and their response:
There’s been some call for a blackout in honor of Uga VII. No offense to anyone championing that idea, but I think the proper tribute would be to sweep Kentucky and Georgia Tech, wearing the silver britches and red helmets that God intended.
Let us all remember that Uga VII’s last game was a great victory, and he goes out as a winner.

Daily Digest: November 16, 2009
Here’s your daily digest of University of Georgia news:
- Georgia beat Auburn Saturday 31-24. Safety Baccari Rambo got a concussion and will be out for the Kentucky game this week. Wide receiver AJ Green suffered a sprained shoulder joint and is out indefinitely (he will miss the Kentucky game).
- Freshman running back Washaun Ealey was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week this morning.
- North Campus was trashed again following the Auburn game. See this photo from the Athens Banner-Herald.
- The Board of Regents are considering a fee hike for students, while the state is considering further funding cuts.
- A student was robbed at gunpoint in a taxi over the weekend.
- Athens police arrested 23 on underage drinking charges this weekend. The highlight was the man passed out in the bathroom of Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
And in sports:
- Georgia football fans see good and bag (Junkyard Blawg).
- Georgia men’s basketball won Friday night. That was the first game for new UGA coach Mark Fox.
- Georgia women’s basketball upset Oklahoma.
- Bowl predictions for the Georgia Bulldogs are starting to pop up. It looks like if Georgia beats Kentucky, we might be headed to the Outback Bowl or Chick-Fil-A (Peach) Bowl, although a loss to Georgia Tech puts that in jeopardy (Bulldogs Blog and Georgia Sports Blog).
