Today’s news for the University of Georgia community:
- The Red and Black writes that there are 10 confirmed and 7 preliminary confirmations of H1N1 influenza virus (also known as swine flu) on the University of Georgia’s campus. UGA has yet to release any updates on their swine flu page.
- You have to receive permission before you can videotape in the Miller Learning Center. Several journalism professors are fighting this.
- 4,000 fewer students requested football tickets this year, even though enrollment. Many charge this to the 48-hour window to order tickets.
- UGA President Mike Adams told a radio show that he doesn’t want to cut jobs to deal with budget cuts.
- The Savannah Morning News has a good overview on budget cuts at Georgia public universities, but this was the most interesting: “The University of Georgia, for example, would have to lay off 78 faculty, 42 staff and 23 graduate assistants if its current budget is cut 4 percent. Layoffs would total as much as 582 this fiscal year if 8 percent cuts are needed.”
- UGA redshirt freshman tight end Bryce Ros will not be playing football again because of a degenerative foot condition.
